How To Add School Email To Gmail App

  1. HulaHoop13's Avatar

    Hi everyone,

I have a galaxy s4 phone and the gmail app, which i like very much. It is working well with my gmail account. I have another gmail account with my school, and it requires me to set incoming and outgoing settings (server, port, security settings). This is for IMAP. I could not find the option to select those settings in the app. It takes me to either a new or existing account when I try to add an email, and from there asks me for my user name and password. Once I do this, it says user name and password is incorrect, which is false.

Does any one know how to add custom email settings in this app? Perhaps there is a way to edit them from my computer?

ANy help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

Do you go to gmail.com to access your school account? If not, I don't think the gmail app will work. You might be able to use the "Email" program, I think you can set advanced settings in there.

The OP did state they have a Gmail account with the school. The Gmail app used to have that advanced settings screen that allowed you to input as you described. I can't find it now... but, as stated above, you can use the native email app and choose an IMAP account from there.

You also need to make sure that IMAP is enabled in your web version of Gmail...

Enable IMAP in your Gmail settings

    Sign in to Gmail.
Click the gear in the top right.
    Select Settings.
    Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
    Select Enable IMAP.
    Click Save Changes.

I TOTALLY figured this out. I was on here for an hour pressing different things and figured out how you get your gmail linked school email linked to your phone.

What you do is go to "settings" --> "accounts" --> "add new account" [as the others have said above]
When you go to "sign-in" for your "exsisting account", press the pulldown menu that is in the top right corner (Looks like a stack of 3 blocks) and choose "Browser sign-in". This is needed because for the school e-mails, it has you do a stupid double sign in thing for verification (at least my school does) so this will have you sign in, and after that it will ask you for your sync options and it's all good from there!

I hope this helps other people, I haven't ever needed to use the browser to help me add an account before on a phone.

Morgan, that was AMAZING. I have literally been trying to do this for 2 hours. Long story short, I was aware that I needed to do "browser sign-in" but my old version of google accounts did it automatically (CM 11 M2 on HTC M7). I just installed a new ROM (CM 11 M12) and a new open-gapps package and it wasn't doing it automatically.
On top of that, there were NO [...] pulldown buttons on any corner, but I double tapped the home button (app options) and lo and behold, a tiny "Browser sign-in" box appeared.

Thanks, I'm going to link to your reply on other sites.
